DANCE CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

BALLET - Combines Nouvere, Petipa, and Chechetti methods. Ballet is the foundation of all dance; basis for all technique, strength, posture, and body alignment; consisting of barre work, jumps, slow control deliberate and graceful movements.

PRE-BALLET TAP A (2 1/2-4  YEARS); B (4 -5 1/2 YEARS) – These classes are a fun and structured exploration of tap, ballet, tumbling, and group work. Creativity, confidence, motor skills, and follow through with directions emphasized.

Tumbling Princess (ages 5 - 7 1/2) A wonderful combination clas which emphasizes grace and flexibility. Ballet will include barre technique, leaps fun turns and performance. Floor gymnastics will include stretching, forward rolls, cart wheels as well as ball and hoop streghthening

STAR/COMBO (ages 5 - 7 1/2)- Exciting new combination class which blends the rhythm of tap with high energy jazz dance and the flexibility and conditioning of gymnastics. This class compliments Ballet/Jazz combo. Together both classes form a well rounded 6 1/2 through 8 years old dancer.

Hip Hop Tumble (ages 5 - 7 1/2)- Very popular combination class which introduces Hip-Hop movements and floor gymnastics. Hip Hop emphasizes coordinations and fun dance moves. Floor gymnastics will include streching, forward rolls, cart wheels ball strenghting and mini trampoline.

JAZZ - High energy movements combining techniques of ballet, lyrical and hip-hop with kicks, leaps, and turns. Jazz styles explored include funk, Broadway, MTV, and modern.

LYRICAL - An adaptation of ballet, modern and jazz expressing feeling with a focus on body lines, balance, and sustained extensions.

TAP - Creating rhythmic sounds with your feet; similar to drum and musical instrument sounds; ranging in difficulty from shuffles and flaps to tricks and wings.

HIP HOP - Hip Hop is the most recently recognized expression of American dance, tied to rap and street music, which became popular late in the 20th century. Intricate popular movements to hip-hop beats/lyrics. May include breaking, popping, locking; often fast-paced and exciting. Hip Hop Open (7-11 yrs) Pre-Teen through Adult (12 and older)

Gymnastics For Dance- Emphasis placed on floor gymnastic tricks, flexibility, and upper body strength. Includes forward rolls, cartwheels, through to aerials and back tucks.

HULA & TAHITIAN - Designed for ages 7 to adults (7 and older)
Learn to dance the ancient and modern styles of Hawaiian and Tahitian dancing with Iokepine, who for 34 years now, has been instructing young and old alike. Polynesian dancing encourages "E hula pu ana" "Dancing as One" . . . in dance . . . in friendship . . . in life.

FATHER/CHILD AND MOTHER/CHILD DANCE - Emphasis placed on family fun and quality time to bond and to perform together at the annual recital. No previous dance experience required for parents. Choreography takes into account differing abilities. Classes begin second half of the year.

PRIVATES LESSONS- Individual classes are available upon request. Reservations must be made in advance.

There is a $30 non-refundable annual registration fee. Tuition is due and payable to O.D.A in advance by the 1st of each month. A $25 late charge will be imposed if payment is not received by the 5th of the month. Students with an unpaid tuition balance after the 15th of each month will not be allowed to attend class until all tuition and fees are paid in full. Only new student’s tuition may be prorated. Every student is responsible for the month’s tuition regardless of how many classes are attended (See Policy & Guidelines) The 5th week of a month is applied towards holidays or shortened months. Certain performance, rehearsals, and combines class rehearsals are counted towards a class. Only the starting month will be prorated. A student may not perform or compete in any O.D.A. sponsored event until all tuition and charges are paid up to date. No refunds are granted for classes not attended. A $25 fee will be charged for checks returned for insufficient funds. Special savings: after the first family member has enrolled in 8 or more classes, the remaining family members are offered a family discount. O.D.A. will not be responsible for lost or stolen articles at the studio.
